Drug Wars in Mexico

Here is a New York Times article that continues the media coverage of the drug wars in Mexico. Since researching on this topic for my group project I have tried to find any new information concerning the topic. This article in interesting in that it talks hopefully how the number of deaths related to this in the past year have been lower than in the previous year or two. However, over the weekend thirteen people were killed at a drug rehabilitation center and another fourteen were killed at a party in Ciudad Juarez, rising the death toll to around 666 people. This number compares to the number of 695 which was to death toll of last year around this time. One cannot forget that these are only the numbers that have been reported. So many additional deaths and murders in conjunction with the drug wars go unreported. This outbreak of recent killings is said to be the result of the seizing and burning of the largest load of marijuana in the country's history. It is encouraging that the government is continuing the effort to destroy the drugs but at what cost? This deed is not going to go unpunished as journalist stated. It is a lose, lose situation. The more drugs that are being reprehended, the more violence and killings are occurring. This is yet another dynamic to the drug war that can not be cleared up until the corruption within the government seizes and the nation fights as a whole to free their country from this problem.
